Seriti strengthens service delivery with waste management equipment handover

The handover of a compactor truck and skip bin loader is expected to strengthen waste management efforts and help tackle illegal dumping in Emalahleni.

Seriti Kriel North Lane (KNL) has handed over a compactor truck and skip bin loader to the eMalahleni Local Municipality as part of its Social and Labour Plan commitments aimed at supporting service delivery and community development.

The handover forms part of the company’s commitment to projects identified through the municipality’s Integrated Development Plan and comes as efforts continue to address waste management challenges in local communities.

Tackling waste management backlogs

Seriti head of corporate and community relations Thabo Masike said the company remains committed to improving service delivery in mining communities and addressing concerns related to illegal dumping and environmental degradation.

He explained that the equipment is intended to improve cleanliness and sanitation, promote healthier living conditions and contribute to sustainable development.

The donation is also expected to assist the municipality in reducing waste collection backlogs, which the company had identified as one of the pressing challenges facing communities.

Masike said the initiative reflects Seriti’s broader objective of improving the lives of residents in areas where the company operates.

Chief operations officer Dirk Miller also expressed support for the initiative, noting that the country’s resources have enabled the company to extend benefits to the communities in which it operates.

According to Miller, Seriti takes pride in honouring its commitments to municipalities and communities, while contributing to local economic development and improving living conditions.

Mayor Vusi Nhlapho welcomed the handover and thanked Seriti for its continued support of Emalahleni.

He said the mining company has made a significant contribution to the municipality over the years through various projects and initiatives, leaving a lasting footprint in local communities.

Nhlapho described the handover as an example of what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together to address community needs and improve service delivery.

The municipality also expressed its appreciation to Seriti Mining for continuing to fulfil its Social and Labour Plan commitments, which are aimed at creating a positive impact in communities across eMalahleni.

The newly acquired equipment is expected to bolster waste collection operations, support cleaner neighbourhoods and contribute to a healthier environment for residents.
