Ms Anna van Staden was at home at approximately 11:45 on Thursday, December 4 in Highveld Park doing chores around the house.
The sliding door was pushed open and three suspects walked into her home. One of the suspects charged at Van Staden with a screwdriver, while another walked up to her and held her at gunpoint.
“They told me I need to show them where all the valuables were in the house and I walked with them from room to room. The one with the gun told me that if I tried anything he would shoot me,” said Van Staden.
Van Staden had no option as she pointed out every valuable item and they collected everything.
“Once they took what they wanted, they threw me down a cellar and placed a big desk in front of it so I could not get out,” said Van Staden.
She gave them a few minutes and then made her way out of the cellar and ran into the street screaming for help.
Neighbours in the area heard screams for help and immediately phoned all the relevant emergency services.
Emergency services arrived on scene within minutes and so did members of the Sector Policing Forum.
Van Staden was treated for shock, while members of Sector Policing checked the house, to make sure it was clear and they started patrolling the area.
The suspects managed to get away with a lot of household goods.
“The three suspects were wearing maroon, green and white T-shirts with caps. One of the suspects, who had a ‘man-bag’ over the shoulder, was armed,” said Van Staden.
“I would like to thank Langamed Emergency Management for their quick response and for their help. Then also the police the way they handled the case,” said Van Staden.
