Police negligent, seven year old in accident

After being placed in the hands of the trusted police she landed under a car and had to be taken to Witbank Hospital with a broken leg.
The girl was taken to Witbank Police station when she was found wandering in OR Tambo Road.
Somehow she slipped out of the police’s sight and ended up in front of a car.
“I am so furious, how do the police let this happen,” a young man who wishes to remain anonymous told WITBANK NEWS.
The man said he and his parents were on their way to their farm when he noticed the girl walk next to the road on the pavement in Woltemade Street.
“It was very odd, there were no adults in sight and the girl was sobbing,” the young man said.

They stopped, tried to consol the girl and find out where her parents were when suddenly she started running down OR Tambo Road towards the old Middelburg Road.
“My dad phoned CSC Tactical and they sent one of their reaction officers to pick her up and take her to the police station. We followed her to the corner of Gordon Road and OR Tambo Road where we asked three men to try and speak to her in their language, maybe she would tell them where her parents were. But she frantically started crying and screaming, covering her face and ran off again,” the young man said.

The reaction officer arrived. Picked the girl up and took her to the police station.
The young man later the afternoon went to the police station just to find the girl outside in the parking area without any supervision.
“I could not believe my eyes, there she was and the next moment she ran out the gate towards Woltemade Street.”
The young man said he went into the police station and told the police what just happened.
“Instead of rushing out and searching for the girl, the police officers started arguing amongst themselves whose responsibility the girl was. I just walked out as I could not believe what had just happened and it was getting dark,” he said.

He continued, “After about five minutes of arguing two policemen climbed into a car in search of her. But, they were not gone even five minutes when they returned and said there had been an accident and the girl was injured.
A witness to the accident, Mr Saneliso Simelane said he saw the girl next to the road on the corner of Woltemade Street and Beatty Street at around 18:30. As he drove past he kept the girl in sight in his review mirror.
“I saw a car barely missing her as she started to cross the road, then suddenly a second car came and hit her,” Simelane said.
He immediately stopped to see if he could help.
“She said her name is Lunka Radebe. This is very sad. This child was alone and terrified and she was hurt. I still want to know where her parents are,” Simelane said.

Lunka was taken to Witbank Hospital and discharged after they tended to her leg.
Sgt David Ratau, police spokesperson was shocked when he was informed of the situation and said he would take it up with the acting police station commander.
