Pedestrian down on dark road
A dismayed driver stood next to the road where, minutes before, a pedestrian was hit.
On Thursday night December 19 ambulance services were called to the scene where a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in Watermeyer Street. The driver of the black Fiat was allegedly driving from Klipfontein towards the bridge when the pedestrian appeared in the road.
Bystanders on the scene alleged that the pedestrian seemed intoxicated and didn’t appear to know where he was. The man obtained some injuries and was taken to hospital. Apart from shock, the driver of the vehicle was unharmed.
The Arrive Alive campaign has started all across the country. Accidents increase dramatically over the festive season and road users must take extra care to prevent becoming a statistic.
The SAPS are also applying a zero tolerance attitude against drunk driving and being found intoxicated in public. “People must also make sure to report an accident immediately after it has happened,” warned Sergeant David Ratau, spokesperson for the Witbank SAPS.
