Breaking news: Attempted cash-in-transit at Saveways Crescent

“The next thing I saw was three men running towards the Coin Security vehicle and trying to pull one of the security guards out of the vehicle…”

On Monday December 22, at around 09:20, a cash-in-transit robbery was attempted by armed robbers at the Saveways Crescent. Bystanders on scene reported seeing three suspects targeting a Coin Security vehicle in front of Saveways Spar. “I just came out of the Spar and got in the car when I heard the gunshot,” a traumatised Ms Anneke Basson told, minutes after the incident. “A man with a huge gun came running towards me and hid behind my car,” Basson continued. Basson told that she saw the armed suspect getting into a white Bantam bakkie. “I was so scared and the gunshot was so loud… it all happened right next to me.”

Two of the suspects allegedly fled the scene on foot after they failed to rob the security guards. Police arrived on the scene shortly after the incident and started search for the suspects. As per description, one of the suspects wore a denim and red hooded sweatshirt and the other a striped shirt and khaki pants.

The shot that was fired during the incident hit a window of a vehicle in the parking area. No injuries were reported, but about 15 people were treated for shock.
