On Saturday, January 17 a suspect broke into the back of a well known shop in Klipfontein. The suspect managed to get through the concrete palisade fencing.
The thief gathered steel shelves, poles and bars that were stored at the back of the shop.
At 10:00 the suspect was caught and locked up in the toilet. The owner of the shop contacted Witbank SAPS, but the shop owner was told that ‘they are busy.’
Witbank 911 was contacted and within five minutes they were there to help the woman shop owner.
The members of Witbank 911 sat with the owner and the suspect for two hours before the police arrived on scene.
The same shop was broken into twice over December.
On Thursday, January 15 a Tuck Shop owner in Eileen Street was shot and items were taken.
At approximately 12:30 Lutufur Rahman was sitting behind the counter and the shop owner was at the back of the structure.
Three men entered the shop, one was armed with a firearm and the other suspect started climbing over the burglarproofing.
When the shop owner heard the noise he came from the back of the shop and a shot was fired.
The bullet ricocheted off the chest freezer and grazed the owner’s chest.
When the shot was fired, the suspects grabbed the cash and cell phones, and then ran out of the shop.
The owner of the shop was taken to hospital just for a general check up.
