The suspects were arrested during police daily operations in the week between January 13 and 20 for different crimes like common assault, possession of suspected stolen property, burglary residential, theft, shoplifting, trespassing, dealing in drugs, drinking in public and road traffic fines.
In the early hours of the morning on January 17, police arrested two siblings for possession of suspected stolen property.
Police were patrolling in Thubelihle when they saw smoke in the street. They stopped and went inside to investigate and found two suspects burning copper cables.
They then arrested them and charged them for possession of suspected stolen property.
Themba Khumalo (26) and Zweli Khumalo(24) appeared in Kriel Magistrate’s Court on January 19 and their case was postponed to February 9 for formal application.
On Thursday, January 15 police arrested a suspect at the municipal park. They were patrolling when they received a tip off about a man allegedly selling drugs in the park.
The police arrested him for being in possession of 16 pokes of dagga with an estimated street value of R150. He was then charged with dealing in dagga, appeared in Kriel Magistrate’s Court on January 16 and was granted bail.
Two hours later after being released on R500 bail, he was re-arrested by the police at the same spot in possession of drugs valued at R150 after they received a tip off that there were men selling drugs at the park.
The police allegedly saw a group of men, when they were approaching them they started to run away. They gave chase and caught two of them.
Police would like to applaud the community and all other stakeholders for partnering against crime during the festive season in the area, as it had a positive impact on the crime. They encourage the community to participate in community policing so that together more can be done.
