They are also still in search of several suspects who escaped after an attempted robbery at a Glencore Mine.
The security guards at Arthur Taylor Colliery Glencore in Ga-nala were in charge of a cache of diesel from the mine.
The guards who were on duty on May 31 said that a group of men arrived at the mine gate in a truck.
Three of the men jumped out of the truck with firearms. They were wearing balaclavas as well, according to the witnesses. The robbers tied the guards up in the kitchen of the office with shoe laces. This modus operandi is common in business robberies, as two similar cases were also reported to the Witbank SAPS.
Apparently they were kept there under constant watch while the other robbers were draining the store of diesel into the containers on their truck.
Another patrolling security unit was passing by and startled the robbers, who left all their equipment on the scene and ran away.
Although the robbers did get away, the authorities seized all of their equipment as well as the truck, which will no doubt aid their investigation.

The police also arrested 12 suspects between the ages of 19 and 50 years old. The suspects were arrested during police daily operations between June 2 and 9 for different crimes such as rape, common assault, driving under influence of alcohol, residential burglary, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of drugs, theft, shoplifting, possession of a dangerous weapon and drinking liquor in public.
