Elderly couple held up in Model Park

An elderly couple living with their son in Model Park, became the victims of an armed robbery when three suspects robbed their house in the middle of the day.

The couple was at home on July 2 in the granny flat of their son’s house. Apparently three robbers broke the gate motor of their palisade on the date and reversed their vehicle into the driveway. One of the robbers went to the flat and before the victims could do anything, the robber threatened their lives with a gun. He apparently kept an eye on them while the other two robbers loaded their Silver station wagon with three sets of televisions, a laptop and a camera.

As soon as the robbers were in their vehicle, the couple pressed the panic button in the flat and news of the break in was also spread to the Community Police Forum as well as the Witbank 911 Zello channel.
“They were luckily not harmed just a bit traumatised over the whole thing,” said the victim’s son who was at work while the break-in occurred. According to him they have been staying in the house for almost three years without any incident. A case of armed robbery has been opened at the Witbank SAPS and they also attended the scene to investigate.
