Youth rushed to hospital from police station
A troubled youth locked himself in a car in the Witbank Police Station grounds.
On July 6 Mr Johan Mxumalo was walking through the Witbank Police Station when he noticed a youth in a recovered stolen vehicle, he had locked himself in the car.
“I initially thought he was stealing parts from the car,” said Mxumalo who came upon the youth at around 09:00 that morning, shortly after paramedics were called to the scene.
Police initially suspected that the minor sought refuge in the car due to the cold weather, but when paramedics arrived on scene it was discovered that the youth had apparently wet and soiled himself, and his pants were around his ankles.
When paramedics removed the youth from the vehicle he was shaking uncontrollably, his eyes darted around in their sockets as if trying to focus on reality.
It was alleged that the youth was high on narcotics, he was extracted from the vehicle and swiftly transported to Witbank Hospital for treatment.
It raises concerns that a youth sought refuge at the police station in the abandoned vehicle.
“It could have been an outcry by the minor – the drug problem within Witbank is so bad, the fact that he was found on police grounds says a lot,” said Capt Eddie Hall, police spokesperson.
In a supplement titled ‘The lonely road of drugs’ featured in WITBANK NEWS of June 26 a number of jaw-dropping drug related facts were released.
In eMalahleni alone there are more than 200 drug dealers.
“Do not be fooled, it is not only Nigerians but also Ethiopians, Congolese, Zimbabweans and also South African citizens who are the silent, faceless ‘murderers’.
They have long moved from the hub of the city. They are no longer just dealing from Lukin, Van Deventer and Jellicoe Streets. They could be your neighbour, living in the posh complex right next to you,” reads a warning.
It was also mentioned that a number of crimes are generated from drug abuse, this includes cell phone thefts, house robberies and even business robberies.
