Community wants a shack owner out
The community of Empumelelweni made it clear that they want one of the community members out of the ward.
The members raised their complains against the member after several issues were raised against her. The woman who is a care giver is alleged staying with orphans and taking care of them. The community wants her out and for the stand they are staying on to be rezoned and be given to the seven orphans to stay in the stand alone. The community members alleged that she is renting out the shack to a group of church people on Sunday and pocketing the money and locking the orphans in the house.
Cllr Timothy Lukhele of ward 29 and pr Cllr Busi Hlumbane jointly chaired the community meeting. They both acknowledged receiving the complaints from the members and they stated that they also received her side of the story and assured the community members something is being done about the matter. Both councillors also said that after receiving reports from the social workers and Community Development Workers (CDW) they want to find a solution to the matter.
It was also stated that the place cannot be rezoned because it is a community facility but she must allow the church service to continue in the place. The councillors also stated that the orphans will be put on the housing list and they will receive an RDP house or an alternative stand.
The community members stated that the children should be prioritised as some of them are sickly and need treatment regularly. The oldest child is 18 years while the youngest is one year old. The community members also said they are prepared to volunteer their services to build a house or a shack for the orphans.
Both parties agreed that the church must move but needs to be given time to find an alternative place.
