On July 14 Armandt Janse Van Rensburg parked his Fiat Uno in front of the traffic department to renew a vehicle license. His car was parked in the recently built fenced off parking area with only one entrance and exit.
He said that after renewing the license he returned to his vehicle to fetch something and then went back in to finish off other business that only took 10 minutes. When he returned to the spot where he parked his vehicle it was gone. He asked the car guards about it and they apparently asked him if he remembers correctly where he had parked his car. “I said you must be joking, I was just there. The thing is they even know me because I go there often. It is part of my job to handle the licenses of the company cars,” said Mr Janse van Rensburg. His vehicle is a white Fiat Uno with registration DBB 015 MP.
Another case of theft of a motor vehicle occurred in Stevenson Street. At about 09:30 on July 15 the victim apparently parked a company one ton truck from of a post office on the corner of Stevenson Street and Watermeyer. When he returned a few minutes later with the letters that he had collected the vehicle was gone.
On July 17 the owner of a Toyota Conquest parked his car in the parking lot of the Saveways Crescent Shopping Centre. When he returned a few hours later at 21:00 it was gone. A motor bike was stolen from a private residence in Cycad Street on the same day. The owner of a red Suzuki found that his front gate was forced open at about 01:00 in the morning and his bike was gone.
