Fire alert
The Working on Fire organisation reported that weather conditions influence the fire behaviour.
They also reported that they have managed to suppress 21 fires.
They stated that weather condition influences the fire behaviour during the fire season. Wild fires spread very fast when there is a strong wind. High temperatures pre heat the fuels that increase the height of blazes.
In a joint effort 21 wild fires were suppressed by the Expanded Public Works Programme of the Department of Environmental Affairs, Working on Fire in the Province. All these wild fires were suppressed in the Highveld, Lowveld and Escarpment regions from July 13 until July 19.
An extra ten teams from Eastern Cape, Western Cape, North West, Southern Cape and Eastern Cape have been dispatched in Mpumalanga to assist.
“Communities must be cautious because these fires pose a great risk to life, environment and infrastructure. Burning permits are available from local Fire Protection Association (FPA) for doing fire breaks,” reads a statement from Working on Fire in the Mpumalanga Province.
