Con man caught on tape

A pick pocket pretending to be a customer was caught on CCTV camera while stealing a cell phone from the store clerk.
According the manager at Hi-tek Express Security the events that led up to the theft is a lot to take in as the alleged thief and two women who were in the shop did their best to distract the two employees.

On August 5 the two employees were about to lock up the store just before 17:00 when two women carrying a baby came into the shop to apparently enquire about their products as they walked up and down the small shop looking around. After a few minutes a man came in as well asking about certain products. He even went behind the counter to “point something out” when he was told to stay on the other side of the counter as clients are not allowed in the staff only area.

The two women left and the man then left his contact number with the employee. While she was writing it down he took the cell phone off the counter and stuck it in his pocket which can clearly be seen on the video footage. The employee asked the man if he was with the two women but he apparently denied it and said that he does not know them yet an exterior camera shows the man and the two women getting into a white Toyota Corolla parked near the shop. A case has been opened at the Witbank SAPS and investigators are working to track down the suspect.

However the community is warned to keep an eye out for this person especially shop owners and managers.

“We keep the front gate locked now after that because you never know,” said the cautious shop keeper.
