A 25 year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Simon Tivane was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances at the Witbank Regional Court on August 5.
He was on the N4 Highway on April 20 last year (2014) at about 14:30. He unlawfully and intentionally followed a 24 year-old female, Ms Joyce Mthimunye who had her handbag and Tivane grabbed it and ran away. The police in Vosman was then alerted and followed and ran after him towards the nearby bushes. He was arrested still having the handbag he had robbed will all the contents worth R1000.
He was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment and was declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 (1) Act 60 of 2000.
