A young woman was approached by a man who said he was a prophet, but in the end ended up robbing her of her belongings.
“I was walking from class to the taxi ranks when an old man approached me asking me where a nearby orphanage was, I told him I didn’t know of any orphanage in the area” said Ms Thandiwe Sibabela.
Sibabela was walking along OR Tambo Street when she was approached by the man, the man changed his story saying that he was a prophet.
“He told me he could tell me everything about my life, I told him I am not interested,” she said.
In that time another man approached saying to Sibabela that the prophet had helped him and that they could talk this through.
“Again I told them no I am not interested and tried to cross the street, the ‘prophet’ grabbed my hand, the other man drew a gun and demanded I hand over my wallet, which I did, however it was empty,” she continued.
The two men then asked Sibabela to hand over her phone, she removed it from her bag and they snatched it then simply walked away.
“There was no one in the vicinity so I couldn’t call for help, all I could do was stand idle as they walked off and disappeared,” said Sibabela.
