Pitfalls for every motorist in the city are a big headache, as everyone is affected by it. Potholes can lead to a tire puncture, damage of a wheel rim, premature wear on shocks and struts or even worse harm.
As a result, a pothole repair project started last week, driven by the community. The aim for this venture is to restore several roads in the city.

The project is funded by businesses and residents, in collaboration with the municipality, who provides the tar and is being done by an independent contractor.
The project was launched on Tuesday, September 1 where potholes were fixed in Jeanette Street, Del Judor which became the first street that underwent recoveries.

The initiative then moved to Gemini Street, Reyno Ridge on September 9 where men were hard at work fixing their city streets.
“Several businesses in the area all made a financial contribution as business owners and their customers use the road on a daily basis,” said Mr Martin Engelbrecht, coordinator of the project.
He is also of the opinion that the project can be a success if everyone who is affected by potholes in their immediate environment, gets involved by making a financial contribution.
“We as taxpayers all feel that we pay for the repair of roads, but we know that is not going to happen at this stage. And if we all have an attitude of sitting back and waiting for something to happen, we are going to wait a long time,” said Engelbrecht.
He further added it was time to reach out and do something about the growing problem.

“A special thank you to Talisman for the equipment they provided us with for our project to be a success, not forgetting residents who also provided a helping hand,” concluded Engelbrecht.
