Noise levels of well-known restaurant is a case of concern

A resident of the area has complained about the noise levels of a local restaurant in Ben Fleur.
Mr Lucky Fanourakis, who originally opened the restaurant, explained the idea of the restaurant in a few words:
“It is a place for fine dining but with the option to stay later.”
The place does have a permit to trade as well as to sell liquor which Fanourakis applied for in 2011. He then waited eight months for it to be settled. But after approximately three years in business, he traded this restaurant for a much quieter place in Highveld Mall.
His aim was originally to create a quiet place where customers can enjoy a light meal. But with recent complaints, this is no longer true.
Although current manager, Joseph Mokgotho states that they do test sound levels, especially on a Friday and Saturday, complaints still did their rounds.
Fanourakis stated that the last thing he wanted to do was create bad relations with the residents in the area, when he opened the restaurant. He also had complaints which he attended to.
“This matter though, is completely out of my control. I have my own place to concentrate on now,” he stated. “Noise pollution can be prevented by taking the right measures and although the building is partly sound proofed, sound still travels,” he continued. “I completely understand the frustration of the residents, as your house is the place where you find your comfort. I however have no say as to what happens there.”
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused, but we can assure the public that we will do anything in our power to not upset them. We gave the DJ a sound limit as well, to ensure that we do not disturb the residents in the area. We do also know that sound travels faster at night and we do handle complaints as they come in. We work with our head office on that,” stated Mokgotho.
He also stated that the sails put up on the bottom floor are not sound proof but he assures the public that the owner is working on the matter to reduce the noise levels.
