The police have reported in the past that foreigner shop owners are easy targets for criminals.
Recently Madebo Abea Alemyethu (42), an Ethiopian national of Hlalanikahle Extension 3, was robbed at his shop. He reported to the police that on Monday, September 21 at about 19:00 he was victim of crime when five unknown suspects forced opened the shop door with a crowbar. They pointed firearm at Alemyethu and took his passport, R3 000 in cash, airtime worth R800, cigarettes worth R750, a cell phone and stock to the value of R400.
Another foreign national became a robbery victim as well. Olia Desta (37), an Ethiopian as well, was robbed at his shop in Extension 9 in KwaGuqa. The victim was asleep at 02:30 when the three suspects entered by breaking a hole in the wall. Two of the suspects pointed firearms at Desta and demanded money and his stock. They took R1 800 in cash, a small bag with Malawian passports and two trousers worth R200. They continued searching the shop and took away cigarettes worth R405, airtime vouchers worth R600 and a cell phone valued at R770. Total value of goods robbed is R2 837.
A Mozambican couple were victims of robbery when they were robbed at their place.
The couple Bernit Mubaba (23) and his wife Christian Silva (23) stay at Radebe Street in Ackerville. They were both asleep on Wednesday, September 23 at about 24:00 when the door of their shack was kicked opened. Two unknown suspects entered, one covering his face with a hat and one of them had a firearm. A shot was fired which went through a pot and they demanded money. They took three cell phones, R10 000 in cash and two Mozambican passports.
Mubaba is car wash owner and in the morning made means to call their brother, who called the police to the crime scene.
No injuries were sustained by the victims and no arrests have been made.
