Policemen still at work

The policemen, who are implicated in the Vosman shooting wherein a 32-year-old man was fatally wounded, still report to work every day.

According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, provincial police spokesperson, the future of the policemen is in the hands of the Independent Police Investigation Department (IPID).
He said they are waiting for a recommendation from IDIP before any decision can be made regarding the policemen.
The events that unfolded on Sunday, September 20 in Vosman left a footprint of no confidence in the police for community members.

According to witnesses, police went to a house in Hlalanikahle Extension 1 to investigate allegations of drug dealing. The suspects were arrested and put in the back of a police van. It is said that the community started arguing with the police and forcefully opened the door of the van allowing the suspects to escape. While the police were chasing the suspects, the community members also chased after the police.
Brig Selby said a preliminary probe suggests that the two members called for backup and Flying Squad members responded.

Once shots were fired, allegedly by the police, residents can be seen running from the scene in fear. As the dust settled, only Isaac Tebele was left lying on the dirt road.

The other victims of the shooting, Messrs Jonathan Pourle, Thami Thobela and Tebogo Segole were taken to Witbank Hospital and discharged.
