A witness reported to police that he saw three men arrive at the dumpsite at around 10:00. They were offloading waste at the site.
A few hours later another three men arrived at the site and started talking to the three men who were already there.

A quarrel broke out between the two groups and not 10 minutes had passed, when gunshots were heard, the three who arrived later attempted to run away.
One of the fleeing men was shot in the back, the other two were able to run away. The other three gave chase but were unable to find the two men that ran off.

“They came back and kicked the man who was lying on the floor, they then left before authorities showed up,” said the witness.

Ambulance services arrived on scene and tended to the gunshot victim who was taken to Witbank Hospital.
Police forensics arrived shortly after the shooting and collected what evidence they could find to support the case of attempted murder that was opened at the Witbank Police.
