A 43-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her son-in-law.
The rape took place on the evening of October 17 on a farm situated in the Ga-Nala area.
At about 18:30 the woman was walking on the way home from a party, her stepson allegedly followed her on the way home and grabbed her while she was unaware.
According to police the 22-year-old man assaulted the woman and once she fell to the floor he dragged her to a nearby bridge, he then removed his T-shirt and strangled her, then proceeded to rape her.
He ordered her to stand up and took her hand, then walked off into the nearby forest where he picked up a stick and assaulted the woman once more, he then proceeded to rape her again.
The suspect was arrested by Kriel Police and made his first appearance in the Kriel Periodical Court. The matter was postponed to October 26 for further investigation. The suspect was denied bail.
“Avoid walking alone and alcohol may be legal but it impairs your judgement, which may make you vulnerable,” said Cst Lindiwe Sibanyoni, Kriel Police spokesperson.
