While Kusile Power Station is under going construction, on-going investigations continue as two accidents have occurred there already in the last month.
Four people have already lost their lives on Kusile’s site since construction started in 2007.
On Friday, October 16 a TLB tipped over when the driver lost control whilst driving down a site access road.
The driver of the TLB sustained minor injuries and was taken to Life Cosmos Hospital for treatment on his injuries.
Since the TLB tipped he has been discharged from hospital.
Eskom started with the investigation on the day the TLB tipped and is currently on-going.
A crane accident occurred on Monday, September 14 on Kusile’s site where Mr Piet Masemola (56 year old) died when a crane fell onto scaffolding.
A TLB tipped over on Kusile’s grounds on Friday, October 16.
“The accident is almost concluded and under review,” said Mr Vusi Silawu, spokesperson for Kusile Power Station.
Three employees were working on a scaffold when a mobile crane, busy pouring concrete tipped and fell on top of them.
The crane radius was extended and that caused the crane to fall over with the bucket of concrete.
During this incident two other employees sustained serious injuries and where taken to hospital and Masemola died on his way to the hospital.
Kusile is already far behind schedule and it is now estimated that it should be completed by 2021.
“The final investigation document will be made available once the investigation is concluded,” said Silawu.
