“He said that he will kill us,”
those were the words of Mbali Mahlangu from Laerskool Klipfontein. On Friday, October 23, eight friends were attacked after school. Mahlangu recalled what happened on that day.
“We were on our way to the taxi rank to get transport home. My one friend came running toward us, saying that ‘he is coming’. We did not know what was happening so we just carried on walking.
We then saw a car coming toward us, skidding to a halt and stopping right by us. The driver told us that he will kill us, and he looked directly at my friend, as well.”
He then said that they started running toward Klipfontein Taxi Rank where they were to get their transport.
“I thought my friend was looking for trouble and that is why he was so angry. But he said he never did anything,” Mahlangu continued.
After they ran toward Highland Mews, they thought that they had lost the car as it was nowhere to be seen.
But when they reached Edenpark Retirement Village, the car made its appearance once again. This time, backup was there to help. A Good Samaritan had seen what was happening and tried to help them.
“He stood between us and the car with his arms stretched out. The driver shouted and said: ‘I will kill you and the kids. Move.’ After I asked my friend what he did to upset this guy so much, he said that the guy just chased him earlier and said that he is going to kill him. After speaking to girls in my class, they said that the same guy showed them his private parts about a year ago and wanted them to go to his house with him. They rejected and ran away, and since then there have been no incidents. Until Friday,” Mahlangu recalled every moment.
He also stated that they really thought that this man was going to kill them. When they finally got away, they ran towards the taxi rank in Highland Mews.
“The driver saw that we were getting close to having people around us, and he took off. I was so glad to be safe,” Mahlangu said in relief.
Ms Dudu Mahlangu, mother of Mbali, said that her child was in a state when she arrived home after the incident.
“All the students involved must give witness statements at the Police Station so that this man can be caught and arrested,” said Capt Eddie Hall media spokesperson for the Witbank Police Station.
The car that police are looking for is a Maroon Ford with no known registration number.
