Street racing, party goers and drinking acceptable on Sundays
Residents living in Christiaan de Wet Street and in surrounding streets within the area have been bothered by party goers in a public street on most Sundays.
Illegal spinning and drinking in public is now under investigation as the director of community services will investigate.

Sundays are normally a peaceful day for families, with a Sunday afternoon nap and a nice lunch.
But with ongoing loud noise blearing, people shouting and tyres screeching on the tarmac a peaceful Sunday is out of the question.
The tyre marks on the road in Christiaan De Wet where party goers spent hours spinning their tyres and playing loud music.
On Sunday, November 1 a resident living in Gladiola Street was at her wits-end with the party goers as she could not handle the on-going noise from the music, the spinning of the vehicles and drinking of the alcohol in the streets.
“We can hardly hear ourselves in the house and it gets so bad sometimes that we have to leave the house,” said the resident who would like to remain anonymous.
According to the resident it happens every Sunday.
Last month Witbank 911 responded to the call from residents in the area and the party goers were removed from the street.
“We keep phoning and phoning the Witbank SAPS and nobody comes out,” said the resident.
Mr Theo van Vuuren the Municipal Manager from the Emalahleni Local Municipality was asked to comment.
“We are busy investigating. Please note that there are specific rules applicable to the use of public roads and open spaces and that speeding and public drinking and disorderly behaviour as well as noise pollution are not only regulated by by-laws but also in terms of National laws. Public gatherings also require pre-approval by the SAPS and municipality,” said Van Vuuren.
Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson from Witbank SAPS spent time looking at the video accessing the situation that occurred on Sunday.
“If there is disturbance of peace in your area contact the police or the law enforcement. The complainant needs to open a docket of disturbance of peace. In this video I noticed the loud noise, allegedly there was drinking in public and according to the road traffic act, no spinning is allowed in a area like this. The Witbank SAPS control room can be contacted on 013 655 5052 for the public to report crime or contact the law enforcement control room on 013 690 6444,” said Captain Hall.
“This matter has been referred to the community services directorate for investigation and for action. As such, I will not be commenting on it at this stage as I need the director first to engage on the matter,” continued Van Vuuren.
