It only takes a few minutes for thieves to steal a motor vehicle and seconds to break a window to steal from a vehicle. A few drivers of eMalahleni are not too happy as their vehicles have been stolen the past week.
Mr Neo Mabena, one of the unlucky victims who lost his vehicle last week is still left surprised about how quick everything happened.
According to Mabena he had parked his car, a green Nissan, at a tuck shop in Duvha Park on Friday, October 30 at around 06:30.
“I went in to get something to eat. I was away for about 20 minutes.”
To Mabena’s shock he discovered an empty space where his vehicle was parked when he came out of the shop. He immediately started asking around whether anyone had seen anything happen.
Mabena was allegedly told by other drivers, that they only saw the vehicle reversing out of the parking before driving off into a one-way lane, in the opposite direction.
The green Nissan is still missing.
Another stolen vehicle was reported later that day when Mr Jake Dennis’ company truck was stolen out of his own yard. Dennis said that the doors were locked and windows closed before he left the truck for the night. The next morning he only discovered that the truck was stolen.
Police are still looking for the truck and no arrests were made.
Spokesperson for Witbank SAPS, Sgt David Ratau, warned that theft of and out of motor vehicles is increasing again because the festive season is near.
Ratau said that there will always be a pattern to indicate which vehicles are targeted the most by thieves.
“All we can do for now is to warn the community again to not leave valuables in their vehicles,” Ratau said in closing.
