A dangerous hole in the ground can cause serious injuries. In Steve Bantu Biko Street, the hole in the ground is due to a burst pipe that had two bursts in one week.
“It has been approximately five weeks since the pipe burst. They come here without the correct tools, sit and wait three hours for ‘the correct tools’ and when they don’t receive it, just leave. I have reported this to Mr Theo van Vuuren, Municipal Manager, but they just fail to come fix this,” Ms Joyce Stansfield said on Monday.
She also added that Klipfontein Primary is just up the road and that the road is very busy in the morning and afternoon when the kids come and go to and from school.
The dangerous hole in the paving in Steve Bantu Biko Street that has been open for approximately five weeks.
“If people don’t know about the hole, they are going to fall in. If children had to fall into the hole, they would get hurt. Who’s fault and responsibility is it, then? I’m not even talking about the street lights that are not working at night, it is so dangerous for people walking here. They can not walk in the road because of obvious reasons, so where must they walk past these heaps of sand? One missed step and they fall in,” Joyce continued.
She also said that the residents of eMalahleni have water restrictions, and that everyone is expected to abide by this, but the water in this hole is drinking water.
“They are transporting water all over the country, we have water restrictions, go without water for up to nine days, and no one bends over backwards for us,” she also said.
The waterpipes are clearly visible in the ground, where the hole in the ground has been open for approximately five weeks.
She stated that she is not the type of person to run to the media about issues, but after five weeks, she has had enough.
She also stated angrily that workers from the municipality drove over her paving, which caused it to break.
“We must replace it. My husband can’t do everything, he does not have the capability anymore, and it’s not his job,” Joyce said.
By time of going to print, no feedback was received from Van Vuuren.
