The family of Phillip Matsebe (64) is concerned after he was diagnosed with cancer; he is now bed ridden.
Mr Matsebe started having problems in January last year (2015) when he felt sick with a headache. He went to a local clinic at KwaGuqa in Extension 10 and he was given tablets and told to go home. The headache did not stop and only got worse. He also went to a private doctor who referred him to Witbank Hospital.
At the hospital he was referred back to the clinic in KwaGuqa Extension 10, again he was given headache tablets and high blood pressure tablets. Already he had developed a lump on his forehead and it was swollen. He went back to the clinic and was told that the only specialist doctor was not available at the clinic and was on leave. They referred him to an eye clinic at the Witbank Hospital. He went through a scan and was admitted at the hospital for a five days period. He was promised that he will be sent to Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria at a later date (January this year). He was also told that he will have to wait for a call from Steve Biko.

It later turned out that the cancer had spread to most parts of his body, when he went to the hospital again he was told that he will only be provided with bandages and tablets.
The family is taking the strain of caring for Mr Matsebe especially his wife, since Matsebe is now bed ridden. The wound on his eye is getting bigger every day and she has to dress the wound as well, sometimes three times during the night. No gloves are provided for the family.
The family had hoped that he was going to be admitted at Steve Biko and maybe something was going to be done about his sickness.
A questionnaire was sent to Mpumalanga Department of Health to find whether there any other intervention or advices that can be provided to the family. No response was received from the Mpumalanga Department.
