A job in progress at the post office

A bed for another night got a whole new meaning at the Tasbet Park Post Office.

A bed for another night got a whole new meaning at the Tasbet Park Post Office. With one glance, no one wants to go near, as it now houses homeless people. Makeshift beds are being made using mattresses, for a comfortable and good night’s rest.

The latest ‘residence’ in eMalahleni is now at the Tasbet Park Post Office.

Curtains ensure that people living there have the privacy they long for. This is not happening in the field, but rather at the cubicles where post boxes are.

“This makes it a hassle to fetch post and I don’t want to go near, due to this problem. It is unbearable and extremely dangerous. I have been at Tasbet Park Post Office more than once where the smell of freshly smoked dagga lingers in the air,” a furious resident stated.

Residents also state that the hygiene is shocking, as these ‘residents’ of the post office don’t pay any attention to hygiene. The strong smell of urine makes your visit to the post office even more unpleasant.

Beds take up all the space as clients take out their post at the post office in Tasbet Park.

Numerous complaints regarding the state of this particular post office have been received and the mail controller and supervisor for eMalahleni, Mr Gabriel Malau, stated on Thursday, June 30, that the problem is being attended to.

“We are aware of the problem at this particular post office as well as the one down town. I have arranged a meeting with the Community Policing Forum (CPF) as well as with the police, and I am just waiting for a date and time for the meeting to take place. I will follow it up with them again. The meeting must happen next week because this problem needs to stop,” Malau said.

He also added that he has been trying to arrange a meeting for some time, but as this problem expands, the need to fix the problem is now of utmost importance.

“We have no problems like these with other post offices, like the one in Gordon Road for example. The one down town also needs to be improved, but I have plans for both which I will not say much about now. I am planning to bring it to the table and hopefully a resolution can be reached sooner, rather than later,” he concluded.

More information will follow regarding this problem as soon as the information is available to the media.
