Drivers escape accident without injury

The start of a brand new week saw two vehicles collide with one another on the Old Middleburg Road.
The collision occurred just after 13:00 when a car allegedly stopped in front of the green Jetta which was travelling towards Middelburg, this caused a collision between it and a silver Kia Picanto.
“As we were driving the car in front just stopped leaving us stuck and not knowing what to do or where to go,” said the passenger.
When the vehicle in front stopped, the Jetta then swerved to the right leading to the collision with the Picanto that was travelling towards eMalahleni. It is alleged that there was only one person inside the Picanto.
It was good fortune that the drivers survived the accident unharmed.
“The accident happened so fast. I am fine but my right leg is swollen but I am sure it will be fine,” continued the passenger.
The Jetta was damaged in front with both headlights and bumper found littering the ground. The Picanto’s left hand side was a wreck with the driver’s airbag deployed.
Emergency vehicles such as ER24 and police were on scene to assist motorists that were involved in the collision.
The Mpumalanga MEC of public works, roads and transport Miss Dumisile Nhlengethwa urged people to drive safely on the roads and obey all the rules of the road.
“The department will monitor all the major roads of the province to ensure that road users arrive alive,” said Nhlengethwa.

Two vehicles that were involved in an accident at the Old Middelburg road, the collision happened on July 4 in the afternoon.
She further explained that motorists must make sure their vehicles are roadworthy, not to speed and take regular rest in their journey to combat fatigue, one must rest every two hours or 200km for a good and safe trip.
“The department will not have mercy on road users that do not obey the rules of the road,” emphasised Nhlengethwa.
