BREAKING – DA wants Mr Fix–It’s head

"This car should not be financed with money meant for service delivery. This current government should be ashamed."

During a sitting in the Provincial Legislature DA Whip in the Provincial Legislature, Bosman Grobler MPL, moved a motion that the Emalahleni Municipal Manager be suspended immediately.

During the sitting on September 6 Bosman said the eMalahleni Local Municipality continues to have a crisis in leadership, and once again, Van Vuuren, is at the center of this controversy.

“In making funds available for a new vehicle for the Executive Mayor, the municipality has taken monies identified for service delivery and allocated it to the purchase of the vehicle to the possible tune of R1.5 million.”

Bosman continues:

“It was through a recommendation by Van Vuuren, that the vehicle will be financed from savings realized from the roll over budget. This is the same Van Vuuren who the DA opened corruption charges against”.

In these tough economic times, where jobs are being lost, service delivery is at an all-time low and Emalahleni Municipality currently experiencing a water crisis, this is unacceptable.

This car should not be financed with money meant for service delivery. This current government should be ashamed.

Bosman asked how can one justify taking R114 thousand away from upgrading the Rietspruit waste water treatment plant, R317 thousand from spatial planning, R230 thousand from the purchase of land and R40 thousand from the establishment of service centres to purchase a car for the mayor.

“As such, I move that this house calls on the MEC of CoGTA to intervene in the eMalahleni Municipality and put the disgraced Municipal Manager on suspension immediately pending the investigation into his corrupt dealings in the municipality.”
