The manhole in Lisa Street is still open and still overflowing.
Mr Theo van Vuuren is quoted in the WITBANK NEWS of November 4 as saying that the sewerage problem at the corner of Lisa and Ina Streets “Will be attended to immediately.”
However that is not the case.
To today the manhole remains blocked with sewage and continues to be the main factor contributing to the stench in the area.

An open manhole in Lisa Street filled to the brim with sewage.
Despite a municipal van visiting the area and it being ‘attended to’ – according to Facebook – the issue remains along with the stench that goes with it.
“The stench is as bad as ever and there is still sewage in close proximity to the residential area,” said Mr Clive Hatch, of the Del 4 Residents Association committee.
Mr Hatch feels that it is now time that the municipality takes the health of the community seriously and systematically repairs the damage to the infrastructure correctly first time every time and not simply do half a job that does not even treat the symptoms let alone resolve the problems.

“It is unacceptable that this serious and repeating problem that should have been corrected last year, 2015 has been delayed by a ‘legal issue’ and could not be solved in a year and will now only be done in 2017” he concluded.
“There were various issues discussed and the issue of continuing with chemical treatment to the one point was one, the other was that on an ad hoc basic the teams were asked to attend to the serious spillage. I did not have feed back on that matter and if it’s still problematic the respective manager will be called to account,” said Mr Theo van Vuuren, municipal manager.
He went on to say that the municipality does take health risks seriously and intends to address it within their means. He further added that the complaints the community is welcome to engage with the Director Technical should further explanations and assurance of what is being done is warranted.
