A whopping 11 drug related arrests were made recently averaging to more than one a day although many of the arrests were made during a weekend operation.

While keeping the drugs off the street by arresting those who sell and buy drugs it is also important to raise awareness about the destructive nature of drugs and their affects, which the police actively do as well, especially in schools.

On January 28 at about 19:00 a suspect was arrested for possessions of drugs and on the same day nearby at 21:00 another suspect was also arrested by patrolling police.

Earlier that day at about 10:30 police arrested three suspects all for possession of drugs near the footbridge in the Central Business District (CBD) and the railway. According to reports these arrests are due to large scale operations that were carried out in the CBD over the weekend.

On January 27 early in the morning a suspect was arrested in Duncan Street for alleged dealing in drugs. The arrests were made when patrolling police investigated a suspected house and searched the premises with a warrant when they found a large amount of drugs as well as alleged crack pipes.

Brig D.G. Motha, station commander of Witbank SAPS said

“Police officers will continue with operations across eMalahleni to deal with the scourge of drugs. We once again wish to thank members of the community for their continued support in providing police with information of people who are dealing in drugs in their communities.”
