
Members of The Hawks in Mpumalanga along with the CIG (Crime Intelligence Group) arrested six suspects over the weekend for Fraud and Corruption.
The suspects who are between the ages of 42 and 57 are now facing charges of corruption and fraud emanated from the investigation which started in the beginning of 2015.
It is alleged that the three Emalahleni Local Municipality licence examiners and one Steve Tshwete Local Municipality were fraudulently issued learners and driving licences to patrons without been tested.
The fourth and fifth suspects who are bogus driving school owners colluded with the officials to issue licences to clients without been tested. The clients will be deceived to pay an amount of money in return to be issued with licences which will then be paid to the officials. The officials will manipulate the system and create the licences and the clients will be called to submit their fingerprints and signatures and will be issued with licences.
“Mpumalanga is one of the provinces with an increase number of road accidents which is a concern when such activity happens in the licensing department,” said Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi.
The Hawks mandate is to combat corruption, Mpumalanga members are on their feet to eliminate all fundamentals of exploitation in the country by arresting corrupt officials within the government sphere.
The six suspects appeared before
On February 27 five of the six accused appeared in Witbank Magistrate Court. and were granted R5 000 bail each and on February 28 the sixth suspect appeared and was granted R2 000 bail.
The case was postponed to May 9 for further investigation.
“More suspects are still to be arrested,” Sekgotodi concluded.
