Protecting his lawnmower which provides an income for him his fingers were chopped off in the process while doing so.

The incident happened on Monday, March 6 at 18:15 in Old Coronation, but the case was only opened on Wednesday, March 29 after Mr Hendrik Ngwenya was discharged from hospital.

He alleged that he was pushing his lawnmower to work. That is when he was approached by two unknown men.

“They first asked me for a cigarette, which I gave them and then they asked for a lighter,” said Ngwenya.

Ngwenya recalls the one suspect going through his pockets and asking for money and the other suspect was armed with a panga.

“I told them that I don’t have money, when the suspect with the panga lifted it up and wanted to hit my head with it. That’s when I put my arm over my head to protect it and the panga cut my hand and a few fingers,” he said.

The suspects left Ngwenya lying on the ground bleeding as they took his lawnmower and disappeared.

“I am back at home now, but my hand will never be the same again,” said Ngwenya.

Bapela was on his way home when he was approached by three unknown men.

Two of the suspects then grabbed him and the other suspect who was armed with a knife threatened him.
