Waste group on an environmental drive
Members volunteered their services to clean the area and clear the overgrown grass and shrubs
The Ward Waste Committee under the municipality of Emalahleni in the Emalahleni Water and Environmental Management are involved with waste and environmental programmes and other related issues.
The organisation is on a cleaning campaign at Hlalanikahle and they also received tools from Scholand Colliery. Their mission is to clean and educate community members about the environment and they want the community to be involved in their programmes. They said they want the people to understand that there is no need for them to go and look for jobs, when they can create jobs for themselves.
The group recently cleaned an area where the body of Sibusiso Dlamini (24) was found with stab wounds at a dumping site in Hlalanikahle Extension 4 (Phase 4).
According to the police, no items were taken from the deceased. After they were called they found the body covered in a blanket in a dumping site. The victim had sustained stab wounds, one on the left side of his head, one on his right hand, seven on his back and one on his chest. The victim was identified by his father, Mr Albert Dlamini who also stated that some children came to his house and informed him that his son was laying at the dumping site. Motive for the killing is as yet unknown.
After the body was found, members volunteered their services to clean the area and clear the overgrown grass and shrubs to prevent other criminal activities. Community in the area were also concern about their safety especially walking during the night. Mr Dlamini was part of the cleaning campaign.
“We have asked the municipality and Eskom to assist us in our programmes. We are doing this to create jobs as well. We have also sent proposals to other companies for assistance. We also invite community members to come onboard and join us. We invite our leaders including the mayor to visit us to see our work. Together in service delivery and development through community participation,” explained Mr Kleinboy Masemola an official of the organisation.
