As a car was travelling on the N4 highway, a huge rock was thrown by three people standing on a bridge. It is for the second time that something of this nature has happened.
On Monday, April 10 around 02:00 a man was travelling on the highway coming from Nelspruit. Inside the vehicle was his 10-year son and 12-year-old daughter. As he approached the overhead pedestrian bridge next to KG Mall, three people standing on top threw a big rock on his car.
The incident lead to the windscreen being damaged and his children were seriously injured.
The man was driving on the left lane as he decided to switch lanes to go to the right, the rock was dropped.
It hit the girl first as she was seated in front and it hurt her face and chest. It then went on to the back and hit the boy who was sleeping, he got a fright when he woke up and found a rock on his lap. He now has a swollen eye and is in immense pain. The driver came out unharmed.
“This incident could have been deadly. I thank God for the protection because the big rock could have fallen onto my face as I was driving. It was a difficult moment trying to drive and calm the children down as they were crying hysterically because of the pain and fright,” said the man. Both children did receive medical attention.
In March WITBANK NEWS reported about a similar incident where it was reported that a person threw a rock while standing at the bridge. The rock hit the car on the right lane and the driver lost concentration and swayed to the left lane where there was a vehicle, leading to an accident. The difference between the two incidents is that this vehicle was driving in the opposite direction (Pretoria’s direction heading towards eMalahleni).
Vosman Police Spokesperson Capt Klaas Maloka said this can not be linked to a new way of hijacking cars.
“We cannot as yet say it is a trend that is going around as no further cases have been opened with regards to this,” explained Capt Maloka.
