Tie down your jet-skis

Jet-skis appear to be on the menu for theft as the Van der Merwe family found out when they awoke at 03:00 to the sound of their alarm.

Jet-skis appear to be on the menu for theft as the Van der Merwe family found out when they awoke at 03:00 to the sound of their alarm.

On Sunday morning at about 03:00 thieves attempted to steal the Jet-skis from the Van der Merwe household in Helga Street, Highveld Park.

“They cut our lock and forced the motor-gate open and were pushing one of the jet-skis out when they tripped an alarm,” said *Mary van der Merwe.

Van der Merwe’s father saw the suspects flee on foot towards a white Crafter Bus which was parked in the street. He recalled that the vehicle was fitted with a tow bar.

Thieves attempted to break into the Van der Merwe’s yard to steal their jet-skis. They broke the lock on the motor gate.

“Our neighbour’s dogs were poisoned on both sides of us as well as the house across from us. This happened sometime last week, I don’t know if it’s the same people. It could be coincidence but I don’t think it is,” said Van der Merwe.

Van der Merwe added that the community should be on the lookout for a Crafter bus with a jet-ski or boat in tow as it could be stolen.

“People should be cautious of their jet-skis and boats and call the police if they see something suspicious,” she said.
