What was meant to be a good trip turned out badly for Antonio Mucope who got robbed by two suspects.
On Monday, June 19 Mucope was in a white taxi travelling on the N4 highway going to Maputo.
Around 23:00 two of the taxi wheels got a puncture. This led to the taxi stopping before the toll-gate to change the tyres.
The driver left to go search for tyres leaving Mocupe and eight other people in the taxi.
Mucope went outside where he got an unpleasant welcoming; two suspects came out of the bushes and dragged him back to the taxi. One of the suspects was allegedly armed. The two suspects searched the commuters and took their cell phones and money.
“Luckily other items in the vehicle such as our groceries were not taken,” said Mocupe.
After taking the items the suspects ran back to the bushes.
“We were not hurt, just surprised about what had happened. It was a good trip overall. I managed to visit home and I am back now,” said Mocupe.
Other robberies took place at the Central Business District (CBD) and Extension 8. This incident happened on Wednesday, June 21.
A 36-year-old woman was at Walter Sisulu Street on her way to work when a white polo stopped next to her. The suspect who was a passenger got out of the vehicle and pointed a firearm at the woman. The suspect demanded her handbag which held her tablet, cell phone and money.
After the suspect took the hand bag, he went back into the vehicle and drove off. The woman in the report stated that the robbery happened so fast, she did not see the car’s registration number. The woman’s phone was off when contacted for comment.
On the same day another armed robbery took place at Langenhoven Street.
It was around 05:45 when a 25-year-old woman had a gun pointed at her. This tragedy is similar to the one above that took place at the CBD. In this robbery a white Toyota Yaris stopped next to her with two suspects inside wearing balaclavas. One suspect got out and asked for her handbag which had money inside.
