You are not imagining things; men in purple speedos are running around in eMalahleni

Brave residents have donned their purple swimwear to raise vital awareness and challenge stigmas surrounding men's health.

Did you also turn around and look twice? Yes, there are men in purple Speedos running from Centre De La Vie up to Geringer Street and turning into Mandela Road.

The brave gents are all doing it for the Hollard Daredevil Run, which has been challenging stigmas for the past 17 years.

The men lace up their tekkies and are running with one mission: beating prostate and testicular cancer.

Early detection

Prostate cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among South African men, and testicular cancer is the most common cancer affecting young men aged 15 to 49.

When caught early, these cancers are highly treatable. A simple two-minute self-examination or a quick prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test can save a life.

So, when you see the gents in purple speedos, hoot and give them a wave! If you happen to take a photo or video, share it with us in the comment box.
