Robbers do some evening shopping

One of the robbers was reported to have made his way around the counter where he opened the tills

“They were in and out quickly, the robbery was over in a few minutes,” said Ms Shamila Rampersad, Caltex Fresh Stop owner.

The business situated on the corner of Jelicoe and Mandela Streets was robbed on Friday evening, June 30 at about 21:40.

The two cashiers on duty were assisting customers when two men, both armed with firearms, walked into the shop and started pointing their firearms at the cashiers demanding money.

One of the robbers was reported to have made his way around the counter where he opened the tills and took an undisclosed amount of money. Meanwhile the other robber began taking cartons and loose boxes of cigarettes.

The Caltex Garage situated in Jelicoe Street was robbed on Friday evening.

“It was month end, the two robbers hassled our two cashiers on duty. Thankfully no one was injured,” said Ms Rampersad.

After the two suspects became alarmed that the panic button had been set off they fled the store on foot with their takings in hand.

Footage of the robbery was readily made available for the police to make use of in their investigation.
