Suspects made use of grinders to break into one business and attempted to break into nearby ATMs.

Suspects made use of grinders to break into one business and attempted to break into nearby ATMs.

The armed robbery took place in the early hours of Friday morning.

Two guards went out on patrol after hearing one of the shop alarms going off at the shopping centre situated on Eddie Street. While patrolling they were approached by four suspects.

Two of the suspects were armed with rifles, one had a handgun. The suspects took the guards’ handcuffs and cuffed the guards in the guardroom. One of the suspects remained with the guards to keep watch over them.

According to the guards report, while they were bound, they heard a grinding noise coming from one of the shops.
When the next shift came on duty at 06:00 they found the guards in the guard room and relieved them from their restraints.

It was discovered that the suspects broke into one of the businesses and cut the safe from the wall removing it from the premises; they also cut open a smaller safe and stole a widescreen television.

Further inspection showed that the suspects also attempted to cut through the wall and into the nearby automated teller machines but failed in their attempt.
