A hijacking ended in violence after hijackers shot a woman.
On September 17 Mr Siphelepe Mnyaka and a friend were approached by two women and a man asking them for a lift to the Sun 1 hotel in OR Tambo Street.
They agreed to assist them after being promised a payment of R150.
While driving along the N12, just before approaching the off ramp to Or Tambo, the man sitting in the back fired off a gunshot into the seat and ordered them to stop the vehicle.
“I heard the shot and they told me to stop and get out then lie down on the floor,” said Mnyaka.
Both Mnyaka and his friend got out of the vehicle and lay on the floor; another gunshot was heard, and his friend cried out for help.
The suspects drove off with the vehicle then Mnyaka realised that his friend had been shot.
“I was overcome with fear,” he said.
He managed to compose himself and sought help from the nearby filling station where he contacted the police and an ambulance.
