Robbery and robbery with aggravating circumstances are serious offences. Even first time offenders may receive a minimum of 15 years imprisonment.

At Witbank Magistrate’s Court this week, several robbery suspects appeared in Regional Court awaiting sentence.
On Thursday, October 19 a man appeared in court on a charge of robbery but was acquitted.

He however appeared again on a charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances and the case was postponed due to the absence of the witnesses to the crime.

Another man appeared next on a charge of being found in possession of drugs.

It was found that the suspect has another pending conviction and previously appeared in Witbank Magistrate Court on account of similar charges. His case was postponed to January 8, 2018.

The four Cash-in-transit suspects that were caught earlier this year appeared for their third time and the case was postponed until December 15.

The four suspects, namely Ndumiso Sibanyoni (24), Reginald Phakula (24), Mthokozisi Khosa (24) and Evans Sibanyoni (35) were arrested on July 21 after they robbed a G4S cash-in-transit van in Mandela Drive.

Three of the suspects are still in custody and the other one was granted bail.

“This matter will be investigated further,” the Magistrate concluded.
