Two stab wounds lead to Dhiraj’s sudden death

The quiet setting of Leo Street turned into a whole crime scene over night as the dead body of Mr Dhiraj Maharaj (44) was found on an open stand.

Police members received a call early on Friday morning, November 10 regarding a murder scene.

When the police arrived in Leo Street they found the body of Maharaj lying just behind the half built wall, pools of blood were found metres from his body in the sand.

Once paramedics arrived on scene, they went to the body lying on the ground and declared him dead. He had two stab wounds in the left side of his neck.

While on scene the police continued with their investigation. Maharaj lived approximately 230m down the road from where his body was found.

Police went to the house and spoke to his wife who said that she and Maharaj had a fight on Thursday night, November 9.

Maharaj then walked out of the house, leaving his cell phone and car keys behind.
His wife did not know where he had gone to, until the next morning when she was notified that he had been found dead.

Maharaj’s brother was contacted for comment about his brother, what type of person he was, but he did not want to comment.

WITBANK NEWS received plenty of phone calls from the community of eMalahleni and Ga-Nala regarding the death of Maharaj.

“He was a wonderful person and we are shocked to hear about his sudden death,” said a resident from Ga-Nala.

A resident from eMalahleni said;

“Saddened to hear about Dhiraj who was found on Friday morning in eMalahleni. He was a true gentleman.”

The funeral service for Maharaj took place on Sunday, November 12 at Indlela Country Estate Hall in eMalahleni.
