Meanwhile, the office of the Executive Mayor of eMalahleni, through the Transversal Unit will be hosting the 16 days of Activism on No Violence against women and children and World AIDS day on November 27.

According to a report from the mayor’s office, an alarming rise in the number of victims of rape, family violence, murder of children, trafficking of women and children and including people living with disability, has been reported in eMalahleni.

The mother reported that she separated from the father while the girl was three years old and left the child in the care of her grandmother and the father. She said she was not allowed to visit the child by the father’s family.
Last year, the mother with the intervention of the social workers won a case to have her child back.

On Spring Day, September 1, children splashed each other with water at school and the girl was splashed soaking wet. The other children tried to help her to dry her clothes but she ran straight home and slept in the wet clothes. Her family tried to wake her up late at night but she refused. They tried to talk to her and at last she told them that she has been raped by her father. The matter was then reported to the police and the girl was taken to a hospital where she was examined and it was found that she had been raped for a long time, according to the mother.

“I am not only angry but I am also concerned because the father transports school children to school. Who might be the next victim? Parents need to know if their children are in danger. I do not want another child to be a victim of abuse. My girl cannot even cope at school and her life has been destroyed, I would not let another child go through the same process,” said the mother.
