St Thomas community gathering

St Thomas Aquinas School recently organised a carols by candlelight service in Christ the King Cathedral with the accompaniment of the South African Police Services Mpumalanga Provincial Band.
Teachers and families gathered in the church, along with members of the Mpumalanga Provincial Band, who had travelled from their base in Middelburg.
Pre-primary children stood in front of the church and greeted everyone with the singing of ‘Give Thanks to the Lord’ and ‘Happy Birthday Jesus’.
Also on the programme was Grade 1 to grade 5 learners delivering Christmas carols and hymns, and a drama piece was presented that demonstrated how us, as the people, must go out and preach the Word.
Finally, Grade 5 learners said prayers for their families, teachers, and the greater community, which included special thoughts for those less fortunate.
The highlight of the evening was the playing by the award winning SAPS Mpumalanga Provincial Band that mesmerised the children and adults alike.
St Thomas Aquinas School’s Head of Religion, Colleen Deiner, said the school was blessed to have had the police band perform a Tribute to Gershwin as well as a medley of carols.
She thanked Colonel Singh and Sergeant Kamanga for gracing the school with the brass band’s presence and for affording those present with an opportunity that many had never experienced before.
This truly was a community gathering that demonstrated the spirit of togetherness and giving that should be present at this time of year.
