Neighbourhood Watch is one effective ways to reduce crime in their surrounding areas. It also assists in protecting property, reducing car break-ins and house burglary. An effective Neighbourhood Watch has already shown excellent results in a number of areas in South Africa.
Working in conjunction with the local police services and armed response organisations, Neighbourhood Watch can form formidable teams against criminals and that requires commitment from individuals and the willingness to participate in keeping the streets clean.

The collaboration and impetus vary from neighbourhood to neighbourhood and can be assessed and formalised by a team from the police. Neighbourhood Watch can go a long way toward change and creating awareness among residents. It can also improve on the lifestyle of residents and reduce the fear of crime in their daily lives.

Community members were encouraged to work hand in hand with the police and not to take the law into their own hands. Sector managers for all the sectors were also introduced to the community members. Later some community members volunteered to serve in the Neighbourhood Watch of the area.
