After keeping the events to herself for a long time, a woman who got the courage to open up on an alleged rape that happened moons ago. The victim visited Witbank Police Station to open the case on Saturday afternoon, February 17.

The unfortunate incident happened in 1994 when the victim was only six years old; at that time her mother was still married to her step-father (suspect).

The man molested her and when she turned 14 started having intercourse with her.

All the time this happened the victim did not tell anyone. It was only in June 2017 when the victim told her mother about being molested and raped.

The victim and her mother were allegedly threatened by the man’s sister to not open a case against the suspect.

Witbank Police Station Communication Officer, Capt Eddie Hall advised people to come forward anytime to report rape no matter how many years back it happened.

“Do not be threatened by anyone including the suspect to not open a case. It is also advisable to open a case as soon as possible to enable the police to gather all evidence on the crime scene which will help with the investigation of the case,” explained Capt Hall.

Crossing over to Vosman, a 37-year-old woman was also a victim of rape. She reported to the police that on Saturday, February 17 at about 01:00 she was raped by her ex boyfriend. In the report she stated that she was at home sleeping with her son, when she was woken up by her ex-boyfriend who broke into the house.

It is alleged that the suspect went there to confront her about her new boyfriend. The woman tried to chase him away but he forcefully undressed and raped her. This happened in Emphumelelwen in KwaGuqa Extension 8.

The known suspect has not been arrested and police are still investigating the matter.
