Backhoff will spend 10 years behind bars for sexual assault

Eugen Georg Wilhelm ‘Org’ Backhoff’s name will be recorded in the national register for sexual offenders.

This comes after the 50-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the sexual assault of two minors now aged 9 and 12. He appeared at the Witbank Magistrate Court (Court A) on Thursday, March 1.

The charge he faces of sexual assault was opened against him on January 2016.

Backhoff was arrested and made his first court appearance on 18 February 2016. The case was postponed to 25 February 2016; during this time Backhoff was in custody.

The case stood down as the docket was not available in court. The docket only arrived minutes after the accused stood down. The case was struck off the roll.

It took more than six months to reopen the case and it was only after the family of the victims involved the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Head Office in Pretoria, and the case was reopened.

Backhoff was charged again and he appeared at the Witbank Regional Court where he pleaded guilty.

In a report read to the court, the first child said, “I want to see him go to jail.” and the second child said, “I want to punch him.”
